On Monday night, about 8 houses down from the camp, a man took his wife into the forest and beat her to death with his hands. He took with him, the oldest daughter, who is only about 6, and she witnessed the murder. Then on Tuesday morning, before the police arrived, the man left home with a rope and hammer and it was presumed he was off to hang himself.
For three days, two bus loads of police and dogs searched the forest and village until finally the man was found hanging from a tree. Suicide.
The three children, Marina (6), Masha (3) and Dema (10 months) are now orphaned and living in the Ivankiv hospital until the Department of Social Services can figure out what to do with them. We are lobbying to have the children placed with us temporarily, but only God knows.
