Joint Playground for Camp & Community of Kolentsi...

When we met with the village council a few weeks ago to ask permission to build the camp, the council members shared with us that they were extremely concerned that there was nothing in the village of Kolentsi for children anymore. At the end of May, the village school, which services 30 children, will be closed and the property sold. The village no longer has the money to pay the salaries of the 3 teachers.

Hearing their concern, we decided to build a playground at the corner of the camp property which would benefit children at the camp, but would also be open to the local village children during the remainder of the year.

20 years ago, our neighbors planted these birch trees and built this picnic table. We left it for the playground. You can see that we also added a nice wooden fence on the community side of the playground.

The playground is already getting used in the evenings by village children.
